Mayor Honors PKS Garden Club for Maintaining Public Gardens
 A fabulous picnic
and plant exchange held at the marina in
Brock
Basin was the setting for
the May 14 meeting of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club. Amidst the
windy, tornado-laden turbulence rampaging across the eastern states,
Mother Nature smiled on the gardeners and supplied a glorious sunny
day.
Lois Jean O’Keefe
read a letter of appreciation from Mayor Joan Lamson, the Board of
Commissioners and the staff of the town of Pine
Knoll Shores, which was presented to the garden club for
all the many hours of work that the members put into grooming the
town’s nine public gardens, especially the Hereth
Garden
in front of Town Hall. Second vice president Carol McVitty announced
that club members had toiled, weeding, fertilizing and pruning the
town’s public gardens a total of 44 hours during the month of March.
On June 11 the
annual luncheon and installation of new officers was held at the
Coral Bay Club at 11:30am. New officers that were installed are as
follows: President,
Carol McVitty; First Vice President, Lois Jean O’Keefe; Second Vice
President, Helvi Larson; Corresponding Secretary, Mary Hudak;
Recording Secretary, Yvette Bannen; Treasurer,Sheryl Woodbury.
Following this June
meeting, the club planned to adjourn for the summer and resume
meetings in September.
